Dave’s Hot Chicken: Review

Foodies, rejoice! A new player has entered the Southern California food scene, making waves with bold flavors and hearty servings. Dave's Hot Chicken, a name growing synonymous with flavor-packed chicken sandwiches, has been on my must-try list. So, I didn't have to think twice when the opportunity arose to review this talked-about eatery.

The Ordering Experience

In the age of convenience, ordering via popular food apps is a breeze. Dave’s Hot Chicken was no different; the process was smooth, except for a small hiccup—our side of slaw was mistakenly swapped for fries. It was a slight letdown as a food enthusiast aiming to cut back on fried foods. Nonetheless, the crispy fries that arrived looked too good to resist.

The Food

Upon unboxing our order, we were hit with the first minor issue—lack of labeling. Distinguishing between mild and medium heat levels became a guessing game. It's not ideal when you’re not a fan of too much spice. But we were pleasantly surprised when it came down to the sandwiches themselves.

What was advertised as sliders were generous, full-sized chicken sandwiches, justifying the $15 price tag. The price promises a satisfying meal for two with the bonus of leftovers.

Quality and Flavor

The chicken's quality was immediately apparent. We were treated to what appeared to be premium, succulent chicken breasts—far from the dreaded processed patties you might find elsewhere. The breading clung perfectly to each juicy piece, seasoned with a balance that accentuated rather than overpowered the chicken. Each bite was a delightful crunch, a testament to a well-executed fry.

Sides and Condiments

Despite the fry/slaw mix-up, the fries came seasoned with the same rub used on the chicken, although possibly too liberally for some tastes. The standout was Dave’s sauce, a mayo-based concoction that added a creamy kick to the already flavorful meal.

Packaging and Presentation

While the food was impressive, the packaging raised some concerns. Styrofoam, particularly when it shows signs of melting, can be a health hazard. Thankfully, the fries were served in a paper container, showing some consideration for health and environmental concerns.

The Verdict

Dave’s Hot Chicken delivers on quality and flavor. The generous portions and rich taste make it a worthwhile experience for anyone seeking comfort food with a punch. While there's room for improvement in order accuracy and eco-friendly packaging, the core offering—delicious chicken sandwiches—stands strong.

Try this place for those in Southern California or areas where Dave's is expanding!
